Rain, rain go away . . .

Our pristine creeks are full and very muddy! They usually are very clear, but lately with all the rain that we have had they runneth over! To top off the rain we have had wind. The trees just cannot take it and topple over. The boys were outside one day and came running in a little freightened (as freightened as a 13-year-old will let you know he is) saying that there were trees falling on the hill, they could hear them hitting the ground. They decided that it was time to stay in after that! The little school bus hut that has been a landmark and also the marker to our gravel lane was squished by one such tree. Shawn and the kids literally had to cut themselves out to get to school one morning. There were 2 trees across the road. They were about an hour late for school, but did not mind much!

It was 1996 when we had the last big flood. The creek that you see nearly up to the side of the road is the one that washed out during that flood leaving us stranded for 3 days and taking 10 loads of rock to fill in. We had a hole about 30 feet across and about 10 foot deep when it washed out in 1996. We have been close a couple of times of having it crest the banks, but so far it has held up very well.

One report I heard is that we have had 20 inches of rain since January 1, 2006! That is lot of rain. The ground shows it too. It is like a wet sponge, you step on it and water seeps out around your feet.

From what I hear we should be seeing the sun this week! It was clear and cold last night, frost on the ground this morning when we awoke. I guess all this rain will make for a beautiful spring!
